"Wing and a Prayer"

The Belted Kingfisher may be seen perched on a high snag, or posts near streams, lakes, bays or coasts. It forages by plunging headfirst into water capturing fish near the surface with it's bill. They typically feed on small fish and crayfish, frogs, tadpoles and aquatic insects. I photographed this Kingfisher drying its wings after a dive.  This was my first oil painting. I had been studying with Dalhart Windberg for several months before embarking on this painting. There are prints available.
